WW1. Mercantile Marine War Medal 1914-19 Hewett #sherborne and also a Kings SouthEdward C Hewett was a Mess Room Steward serving on SS Fallodon, a defensively armed British Merchant steamer. On 28 December 1917 when on route from Le Havre in ballast for the Clyde, she was torpedoed by German submarine UC 71 and sank. All bar one of the crew survived. UC71 was captained by Oberleutnant Ernst Steindorff, who is credited with sinking 30 ships during the war. Without ribbon. Good very fine.
