In the upper panel is a recessed bed, placed in a separate small room, l'Italienne, instead of an actual alcove. Behind the miniature balcony, the bed would have been placed on a raised platform, for that extra bit of extravagance; and what it impressive sight it makes, all nestled within the ornate scrollwork and paneling.
