I think it might have been sitting for the past 50 years or so

as documented here

The polar bear stands less than an inch tall

it would be especially great at the center of a table with a potted orchid

So I would guess it was a woman who did these designs

I purchased it at the estate sale of a family of artists who had many wonderful things, including some terrific Ecuadorian textiles and ceramics. That and the jug type shape make me assume it is South American. I'd love it filled with a a couple of tall
