Heliconia schiedeana Piper betle jellies and drinksHeliconia schiedeana, also known as the 'Guatemalan Bird of Paradise' (though it is not a Strelitzia) is one of the most cold hardy of the Heliconias and grows to a height of 2 3 metres approx. Manages an indoor situation, though may not flower as easily. Requires adequate moisture. Manages coastal conditions well. Salt spray will cause minimal damage. As with all Heliconia, wind can shred the leaves so find a nice warm spot sheltered from the wind.
