This is a wonderful example of the principal cavalry saber used in the U. S. Civil War of 1860 1865. It features all brass mounts, a wood with leather wrapped sword grip and fully intact bound brass wire wrap, and a nice dark steel scabbard. Additionally, it has a leather sword knot wrist strap, most likely so the sword can be easily recovered if it is knocked out of the hand. The curved blade's ricasso is marked on
