with a narrow band of striped paper around the perimeter of the lid

I believe the wood is either mahogony or walnut

because of the huge number of firkins and buckets that were made there

There was a great deal of similarity between Wabanaki (especially Mi'kmaq) and Iroquois (specifically Seneca) beadwork during this period; I am not expert enough to attribute definitively.
