with especially excellent ears on a wheel like head that make it look as if it could walk away if turned upside down
What I like most about them is that they were made to represent a variety of animals and people too
with hanging hooks at the top ends of the rear spindles for hanging on the wall--a good one for displaying an arrangement of (not too heavy) carved figures and whimsies and other sorts of treasures
and a series of problems
Lady Justice with Scales and Sword, Allegorical Watercolor Signed AHD, 1817 double ball in cage whimsy (There is some reflection capturedSuch a beauty and feels very timely, sadly in a very bittersweet sort of way. This is a watercolor, French I would think, signed AHD along the very bottom edge and dated 1817. I would presume done after a late 18th century engraving, though I have not found a definitive source, and emblematic of the allegorical personification of virtues of the period, which also gave rise to many Lady Liberties. Beautifully executed, wonderful bold red to her cape
