Carved into the left side of the front with thumb hole at top is LMR 1897

used to urge a horse to greater speed

which just stopped me in my tracks when I came across it

this is an early one

Large, Extremely Weathered and Hol(e)y Carved Head of Christ (?) Figure skeletal system drawing Carved into the left sideHoley Christ! The hole in the underside of this very old, much weathered carved head suggests it was once attached to a large caved figure I presume representing Jesus himself, though perhaps a female santo; hard to tell for certain! The wood is more or less petrified one assumes from years and years of the figure living out in the elements, through perhaps the head was thrown in the ocean at some point, then by true miracle washed up again on shore!
