I found another of these 19th c Sunderland lustreware/ transferware plaques not long ago (that one reading Thou God Seest Me) and went back to my source this week to scoop up one more

Then I turned it the right way up to find this very sober looking, somewhat Frankenstein ian face! Both ways pretty terrific I think, and I like this idea of the drawing holding two aspects at once. Plus what a brilliant thing crayon resist drawing paintings are, with the scraped away black tempera paint lending
