Egyptian Skirts, 1938 Ink and Gouache Illustration by Anna Thomson spattered I can’t quite figure out

I can’t quite figure out what the one with stylized writing on the front is meant to say—if you can decipher it

A: 4 1/8" l x 3 9/16" t

with the pitch graduated from highest for the smallest (green) box to deepest for the largest

but I find it exactly right--conveying the quiet beauty and also isolation of winter without a brushstroke more than is needed

Definitely a warm and watchful presence to have around

One certainly comes across these sorts of drawings from time to time, but I think this particular piece quite transcends the context of its making, between the marvelously tender interactions among figures the touch of fingers, hand hold, arm across the back and the terrific
