A little research lead me to discover that this drawing must have been made after a woodcut first published as a plate in Thomas Hood's Whims and Oddities: in prose and verse

minor staining and fading to (what is now) a very pale blue watercolored background

the white paint against the smooth dark wood reads almost as silver

in the original green box

Two layers of yellow fabric, the top one a (now) pale yellow linen, with this wonderful needle bobbin lace hatted woman at the center, hands on hips, with marvelous tiny fingers. 3 7 8" x 3 5 8" not including tassels. Surface fading and darkening buy no holes or issues, all seams tightly hand sewn,
