it feels lot like a Carl Auböck piece--and he did a number of letter openers
with some wear to the black paint and a few tiny chips but looks and plays great
first portraying birds and then "the human condition in all its moods and shapes" as described by Lyle Elder
with some loss of stain to the base only
but found it at Brimfield and couldn't put it down
Intricately Interlocking Marvelous Crown of Thorns Lidded Tramp Art Box 1-10 it feels lot like aMarvelous, in the literal sense I can't possibly imagine possessing the skill, let alone the patience, to construct a box like this, composed of many hundreds of interlocking bits, each carved of cigar box wood (with text visible on the sides of a few.) Marvelous too, how the lid interlocks perfectly with the lower box, a seamless fit, forming a perfect whole, which seems as if weightless and floating. I come across a lot of chip carved tramp boxes,
