They were meant to teach sailors about the differences between German and enemy ships, with allied ships included as well. The first book, Taschenbuch der Kriegsflotten 1914 15, is named on the interior cover to a sailor, H. Peifs, with what appears to be a unit, 5 R 92, and a date of 27.
