This is a very nice example of a mid 19th Century French Continental style percussion pistol, most likely made in Lige, Belgium. The pistol features a 5 1 2inch octagonal barrel, which has had texture added to the outside to give the look of "Damascus" steel. Close examination shows that it is just a simple pattern repeated over and over. The left side of the barrel is marked with the E L G * in an oval proof mark of
