I would guess it indeed dates to the mid to late 19th century

I believe it is a paintbrush our woman holds in one hand and a palette in the other

Wonderful details, wonderful face, clearly posed and poised to delight. In what I believe is likely the frame where she has always lived, to which the tin is tacked in the corners by tiny tails, then backed by board. I believe 1840s
