Chic and cheerful is this vintage Japanese (circa early 1940s) hand-painted ceramic wall pocket in the shape of a duck

and then this field of pin-prick like marks outlining the year of its making

with nails on the sides near the top strung with wire

which makes it all the more beautiful to me

Sweet Hand-carved Heart and Clover Little Slide Top Box japanese box which this one does not--ratherAt first I thought this might be a box made to hold playing cards, but it's a bit too small for that, so maybe good for a box of matches, or a small stash of something, or just a few little treasures. And someone certainly put some love into it, with heart on one side, three leaf clover on the other, and sweet chip carved borders on both sides.
