rather I might think this carving was made to commemorate his life at the time of his death--which would make it quite a special thing indeed

earning renown for especially vivid colors believed by artists to be equal or better to any made in Europe

and with a few condition issues

I have not found a signature on this piece so am unsure of its maker

Especially amusing (or disturbing!) that it was done on the back of a flier for the Children's Department at the Tenafly Public Library (New Jersey.) Graphite on copy paper. Overall: 14" x 8 1 2".
