The pepper measures 4 3/4" tall x 1 1/2" wide x 1 1/4" deep

as is the case now

5 1/2" tall x 1 3/8" wide x 3/4" deep

and especially the bleeding blue and black of the eyes

with a couple of stray pencil marks on the lower part of the drawing

I believe this huge hand painted claw likely dates to the early 20th century, and, found in Maine, would guess that is likely where it originated.
