Instituted 30 June 1848 by King Maximilian II. (1848 issue). Constructed of bronze, on loop for suspension, consisting of an Arrow Cross, the obverse with a central wreathed Bavarian lion rampant, the arms with an inscription of DEN VETERANEN DES BAYER HEERES (TO THE VETERANS OF THE ARMY OF BAVARIA), the reverse with a central wreathed Bavarian checkered flag motif, the arms with an inscription of MAX.
