A fascinating lot of wartime photos depicting the crew of Type VIIC U Boat U 968, including a candid portrait of its commander, Oberleutnant zur See Otto Westphalen, depicted seated on the exterior of the vessel, the reverse with a handwritten inscription, measuring 104 mm (w) x 150 mm (h), with material fatigue throughout, in overall very fine condition; a second photo depicting Westphalen shortly after receiving the Knights Cross
