The upgrade included CUSP avionics that integrated the Paveway IV weapon with the communications module from Cassidian and TIE (Tactical Information Exchange) from General Dynamics

Its primary role was to intercept Soviet bombers entering UK airspace with powerful radar and armed with Skyflash and AIM 7 Sparrow missiles

He famously remarked "I don't want anything touched!" referring to how perfect the aircraft flew. This design shows K5054 in the blue paint scheme for the 1936 Royal Air Force Pageant at Hendon in 1936.
