The obverse is acid etched with a flowing ribbon banner inscribed "Zur Erinnerung an meine Dienstzeit" (In Memory of My Service) surrounded by oak leaves, with Wehrmacht eagles at either end. It retains its crossgraining, in addition to mild scratches
