Constructed of bronzed magnetic metal, the obverse consisting of a shield bearing a map of Crimea and southern Ukraine, topped by a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, flanked by dates 1941 1942, affixed with four side prongs to a magnetic metal backplate with a field grey wool liner, unmarked but demonstrating the characteristics of a variant attributed to Rudolf Souval, Vienna, the shield measuring 52. 85 mm (w)
