Hailing from Donegal, the group are musically influenced by the darker side of the folk scene and the more haunting elements of choral music. 2023 saw Charles James & The Rise named Highland Radios winner in Hot Press A New Local Hero awards. In 2024 their single Carry On was named Hot Press Track of the Day upon release and Drinking the Ghosts
